Ahh, I see, so it's just a learned skill? It just feels rather silly sometimes, as even in fantasy games you usually have to either acquire some item to breathe under water or there's meter showing oxygen level you have to maintain. I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt in a world with magic and all, but when there's so much water everywhere, I would've thought it would be a more common skill.

Somehow, that doesn't surprise me at all, especially when I've also seen Braska/Jecht shippers before... but it's okay, Seymour got his own slash-sim-story with Squall, at least!

The voices do sound very fitting for most of them, although the Yuna bit really gets to me since she's so central to the storyline, and so most of the cutscenes involve her in some way and it starts to hurt if she takes forever to finish a line. ... though damn, I completely forgot about Ehrgeiz, for... uh, multiple reasons. I'm not familiar with the JP version to comment, but yeah, most of them in English don't bother me at all, but it's not really up to, say, Persona-level voice acting, where they specifically seem to go after the top English VAs (even though a few of them aren't really famous for range, others are very good).

curiously they went for VAs not involved in anime dubbing but rather Western Animation series such as Futurama, The Powerpuff Girls, Rugrats etc. (Later FFs tend to go for anime dub VAs or the occasional soap opera/TV bit part actor - I don't know if this is anything to do with a union issue or cheaper rates though.)

Wait, really? Now this I have to see, as imagining these characters as cartoons will be a riot- *looks up Futrama first since I SHOULD recognize those voices and yet---

Wakka is... Bender?

Mind = blown

Now that I know that I can kind of hear it in his inflection, but he sounds nowhere near as gruff and aggressive as Wakka. (And ironic, Wakka's VA also voicing a robot....)

Even among different cartoons the voice acting can be pretty... like I find it difficult to watch Bob's Burgers because I already know the main character's voice from Archer, and he sounds EXACTLY the same despite how they're very, very different characters. One is pretty much a very exaggerated parody of James Bond with poor social skills and an alcohol problem, and the other is a well-meaning family man running a local burger shop. Hearing the same voice come out of both of them throws me for a loop each time, so this...

I really need to hear the JP version of Dissida sometime, since it was an option on the English version iirc. I have no expectations for the remake, especially until I know what exactly "drastic changes" means... One of the first things they said was it wasn't just going to be a HD version like this version of FFX is, but tbh I would've much preferred just a graphics overall + soundtrack remix. Much less room for them to screw up and put Genesis everywhere.
