Thoughts on FFXIII now that I'm more than halfway (I think? I'm at the boss at the end of The Palamecia)

Much to my surprise, I actually like it now that the SEERRRRAHH scenes have stopped? A part of it may be because I played it so late, as all the hate it gets had me going into it thinking "well, as long as it's better than FFVIII..." where as a lot of other people seem to have jumped into it going "YAY FF, I HOPE IT'S AS GOOD AS [MY FAVORITE]*" I knew they wouldn't make another VI/IX/IV, so I... definitely wasn't expecting anything of the sort. It does have some... pretty noticeable flaws that prevent it from being my favorite FF unless the second half really changes things, but...

*Not that I can blame people for this; I'm more just explaining. I do the same thing with Zelda and am always slightly disappointed in new Zelda games as a result. Although in that case the benchmarks for me are MM, and to a lesser extent, Wind Waker, instead of OoT like it is for most... and many of their recent games have been to cater to the massive OoT crowd more or less. (Like XIII here, Majora's Mask gets a lot of hate for being "different" and "taking away core Zelda concepts like Zelda herself" but that's why I like it. The whole game is very unique to the point I never tire of it because there's nothing else like it.) I keep on hoping for another unique game (WW was also really creative, so) but...
